I've just finished TypeCon 2005 in New York and thought I would post a few photos and quotes from the show.
Photos are here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/chrissam42/sets/640361/
Some quotes that seemed funny at the time:
Gerry Leonidas: I'm left handed, and I grew up in the time where they didn't beat us, the just smacked us upside the head and told us, “Get on with it!”
Gary Munch on the Cyrillic я (“ya”): "Here’s where you always see Toys ‘Ya’ Us"
Paula Scher: The architects will try to tell you, “The building is the sign.” Nonsense. The building’s the building, the sign is the sign.
Danny Pelavin on the being bothered by people modifying his fonts: For every 100 copies of the font that get distributed, one person will buy it, and I get 29 cents, so no, I'm fine with it.
Ed Benguiat on getting inspiration for type designs: See what someone else has done, but make sure he’s dead.
Carlos “Mare 139” Rodriguez on graffiti: This is an art like no other. You have to steal your frickin' paint, then you have to sneak out at night, then you come home and your mom kicks your ass. Then you go out and other writers kick your ass.
Matteo Bologna on his typeface Infidelity Pro: I called it “Pro” -- even though it has no foreign characters or OpenType features -- I'm going to add them at some point -- but it’s “Pro” because it took me a long time to do it.... It’s kind of a gay Clarendon.

Okay, that’s it for now. I've posted 289 photos on Flickr, and that will be all unless we receive new photos from other intrepid photographers. Many thanks to the “big three” contributors: Laurence Penney, Adam Twardoch, and Charles Ying.

Finally the wedding ceremony photos are up. There actually aren't that many! Also photos of college and high school groups are up. Go to it.

Group photos of all the families, best man and woman, and a special bride-themed set are posted at Flickr. I'll get to the actual wedding photos soon, I promise!

Photos are now available from the baseball game two nights before the wedding.

At our brilliant photographer Laurence Penney's suggestion, I got a Flickr account to post the wedding photos. Since the honeymoon photos are all from one source (me) and are relatively few in number, they are much easier to organize than the approximately 700 wedding photos that have come in so far. So here they are, the Honeymoon Photos.

We were married on May 29, 2005 at Wilson Vineyards in Clarksburg, California. Pictures will be forthcoming!

“paxhominib.us” was just too weird to tell people, so I've taken a page from Steph’s book and now this site is nomadicsiren.org. I'll probably be rennovating it a bit to make it more of a Chris ‘n’ Steph page.

Steph and I have announced our engagement. We're getting married on May 29, 2005 in Sacramento, California. If you're reading this page, you're probably invited!

Steph went to Bali over the summer to teach people about African music and dance. Yep, that’s right! The proof is in the pics!

I'm very excited to have joined a choral group here in San Diego called Schola Pacifica. It’s a small men’s group that sings Gregorian chant and early polyphony. We had a concert the other day, and I also designed their web site.

I've finally started using the domain name I bought last year, paxhominib.us. It doesn't roll off the tongue and it’s probably too clever by half, but what’s done is done! You can access this site now at www.paxhominib.us. “Pax hominibus” is Latin for (literally) “peace person,” which doesn't make much sense by itself; it is part of the Gloria of the Latin Mass: “Et in terra pax hominibus bonae voluntatis,” "And on Earth peace to men of good will."

I'm trying my hand at creating a personal website for myself, so that friends and interested parties can see what’s up with me. This is probably about two people, but that’s not the point!
The impetus for creating this site was my recent purchase of a reasonably nice digital camera, which would be a big waste of money if not used often. You can see pictures from various events on the Image Albums page.
