I bet the only person (over-)worried about the situation is the Japanese teacher, only because she´s worried about her own reputation, which really is not as affected by her students as she thinks. You´re not flaunting anti-Japaneseness in doing it (as you pointed out, there are other Japanese just like you). I bet last time you let someone second-guess your judgement in behavior matters in the States was when you were about 13. No one needs to treat you like you´re still that age. Have fun. Be yourself.
